iuchiban got me thinking about this with his "hotter than" topic since I was trying to think if anyone back home used Tabasco sauce or Cajun seasonings as a marker of "hotness."

Anyhow, this reminded me of my husband's "Slap Ya Mama" scale for rating food. You can modify it to the number of slaps you deem necessary. The scale initially came from the phrase "That tastes so good it makes you wanna slap ya mama" (the implication is that "ya mama" never cooked anything for you that tasted as good). We find this much more amusing than a 4 Star scale and have also discovered a Slap Ya Mama Cajun seasoning produced in Ville Platte, Louisiana.

Anyone else have any unusual, perhaps regionally driven, rating scales for food or anything else?

I have always heard this said "Salp your Gandma," but totally the same Idea. I always understood that it meant it was so hot (or so tasty) that you would do something stupid, not so much as retribution for not getting good enough food.

When I was growing up, my mom and dad always said "so good, it'll make you whip your grandma". All in the same vein, I guess.

There is a country song by Trace Adkins with the lyrics:
Got it goin' on
Like Donkey Kong
And whoo-wee
Shut my mouth, slap your grandma
There outta be a law
This is a song about a girl's "badonkadonk". It looks so good that it would cause you to do something you wouldn't do under ordinary circumstances- slap your grandma.
