When I first came across this term, I thought it was an easy substitute for "motherfucker" (since they both start with an "M" and and with the suffix "-er").

But in more recent instances, I've come to see that it is an actual insult on it's own.

The Urban Dictionary has some good definitions of it.

The thing is, I've only seen it in print, never have I heard someone use it verbally.

Have you ever come across this term? Or used it? Certainly we all know some mouthbreathers, but have you ever identified them as such?

I don't use the term-I don't think its clever enough. It could refer to people with sinus trouble, after all.

I know I've heard it, and usually in a slightly derogatory sense-a version of hillbilly or hick or goober. I'm pretty sure I've heard a standup comedian or two use it-it may have been the late Bill Hicks. Either that or maybe I read it in a Scott Adams work.

I have a friend who uses this term all the time. "Fucking mouthbreathers!" and that sort of thing. He literally means it as someone too stupid to breathe through their nose.
