Unpleasantness and "set in".

I've been told that the typical subject of the phrasal verb "set in" is something unpleasant. Why is that so?

From my Longman Advanced American English Dictionary:

If something sets in, especially something bad, it begins and seems likely to continue for a long time: Panic set in as the tornado approached. | Other complications soon set in, including internal bleeding and pneumonia.
