Which do you commonly use to make a suggestion or when asking for an opinion?

Shall we leave before five?

Will we leave before five?

Hi Bridget

In American English, "Shall we leave before five?" would basically be used to make a suggestion. In other words, "I suggest we leave before five. What do you think?"

Will we leave before five? is a simple question. To me, it simply asks the other person to make a prediction about the future.
