Why is it

Equal to
Identical to
Tantamount to
even equivalent to

but synonymous with?

When it comes to these sorts of questions about why a particular preposition or particle is chosen, it's best to look at each etymology individual words. It might be the case that the set of data you provide misleadingly suggests that there is some generalization where there might not be one present.

Well "syn-" marks "with", so that may have something to do with it.

Also:

"indistinguishable from"

"the same as"

"congruent with"

And cf. "different from" vs. "different than."
