Isn't it true that we don't really report speech?

Isn't it true that we don't really report speech, but we do report events?

Which would you find yourself more commonly going for, A or B?

He says, “Get the hell out of here!”

Later, you say:

A: He told me to get the hell out of there.
B: He threw me out.

I think this would vary from speaker to speaker, depending on his/her action orientation in the world. I, personally, would repeat the words, especially in this case where the language is memorable/powerful.
